You are being invited to participate in a research study on relationships. This study is being done by Nate Fowler from the Sigil Social Foundation.
Why are we doing this research study?
The purpose of this research study is to study relationship dynamics, physical closeness, and the impact on social media.
Who can participate in this research study?
This study is meant for those who are 18 years of age and older, can be any gender, relationships status, or sexual preference. If you are triggered by anything connected to relationships, please consider not taking this study.
What will I be asked to do and how much time will it take?
If you agree to take part in this study, you will be asked to complete an online survey/questionnaire. This survey/questionnaire will ask about relationships and physical closeness and it will take you approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. You will be asked before the survey to submit 3 Candid Selfie Photos below. These photos are used in connection with the study.
Will being in this research study help me in any way?
You may not directly benefit from this research; however, we hope that your participation in the study may help with understanding relationships, closeness, and their connection to social media.
What are my risks of being in this research study?
While there are no direct risks of participating in this study, indirect risks can include triggers related to relationships, physical closeness, and social media.

This survey is performed anonymously and will not collect any personally identifying information, other than the required 3 Candid Selfie Photos. You may need to download these from a phone or fill out the survey using your phone. We believe there are minimal risks associated with this research study; however, a risk of breach of confidentiality always exists and we have taken the steps to minimize this risk as outlined in a section below.
How will my personal information be protected?
To the best of our ability your answers in this study will remain confidential. We will minimize any risks by having that information stored outside of the internet once the study is complete and following our privacy policy.
Will I be given any money or other compensation for being in this research study?
This study is performed for your participation with mTurk. Your worker_ID is required to complete this study and you will be required to enter it two times.
As researchers we are not qualified to provide counseling services and we will not be following up with you after this study. If you feel upset after completing the study, or find that some questions or aspects of the study triggered distress, talking with a qualified clinician may help. If you feel you would like assistance please contact your local therapist or counselor using Psychology Today https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists. In the case of an emergency please call 911 or your local emergency services.
What happens if I say yes, but I change my mind later?
You do not have to be in this study if you do not want to. If you agree to be in the study, but later change your mind, you may drop out at any time. There are no penalties or consequences of any kind if you decide that you do not want to participate.
